Coaltown Blues team return to Picton with SEQUELS
There are many songs with beautiful melodies and lyrics. Amongst those are
some special songs which create little short stories, complete with
characters and a plot, condensed into just a few lines, but with a depth
of effect. One such, “Sweet Dreams” by John Bucchino, a sad little story
of two runaways who meet in a bus station, set actor/singer Chris Green on
the path to his latest production SEQUELS – STORIES IN SONG.
Chris Green brought the solo play COALTOWN BLUES to Picton Little Theatre
in 2014, and The Boathouse Theatre in 2015. He joins forces again with
Thomas Nikora on piano for SEQUELS. Humour, pathos and charm are inherent
in the selection of songs as Green brings this range of short stories to
life with his intimate musical interpretations and skills as a musical
theatre actor. The Dominion Post described his singing as “sublime”.
Theatreview states: “Chris Green is a talented performer with a warm and
engaging presence, a gift for capturing the key elements of character in
voice and stance, and a fine, rich baritone voice”.
Some of the songs in SEQUELS will be fairly well known – Anthem from
CHESS, Bring Him Home from LES MIS; the Billy Joel number New York State
of Mind, Witchita Lineman made famous by Glenn Campbell. Some will be new
to most audience members – a surprising piece from Elton John and Bernie
Taupin, vignettes from Jimmy Webb and of course Sweet Dreams.
